2/2/26 — Centreville High School led for nearly the entire game, but the Oakton Cougars made things interesting in the final seconds before the Wildcats secured a 42–37 victory on Monday night.

Trailing by three with six seconds remaining, Oakton had a chance to tie when sharpshooter Brooke Chang launched a three-pointer that rattled off the rim. Centreville’s Aliza Murray grabbed the rebound and was fouled immediately, calmly sinking two free throws to seal the win.

Centreville set the tone early, as Daniela Cuellar opened the scoring with a reverse layup. The Wildcats controlled the pace throughout the first half and carried a five-point lead into halftime, fueled by seniors Malia Siriwardene and Murray, who scored 10 and seven points respectively in the opening half.

Oakton responded with a strong third quarter, cutting the deficit to just two points entering the fourth. Siriwardene answered with a clutch three-pointer, then followed it up with an and-one on a drive to the basket to push Centreville’s lead to seven. The Cougars continued to chip away, pulling within three before Chang’s final attempt fell short.

Siriwardene finished with a game-high 18 points for Centreville, while Murray added 11. Oakton was led by Sophie Toole with 11 points, Chang with 10, and Jocelynn Kinlaw with nine.
